A sorted mk2?

Right, whilst doing my car ( because Ive bitten off more than I can chew) I've realised I want to get rid of it as soon as its in a sellable state!

Im just wandering, how reliable would one of these fully reconned mk2's be?  Would they still need the same attention as the old ones or should they be near enough like a new car?

A good solid car should only need general wear and tear parts. So yes more reliable

depends who fully recons it!

recon engine should come with a warranty so no probs there, likewise all the brakes/suspension/bushes are all well served for reconditioning or available new so no probs there either. personally the biggest question mark in my mind would be over body repairs/welding and possibly wiring looms, again perfectly repairable and looms acan be remade (no idea if they are avilable new) but a botched loom will give you an expensive german disco and a bad enough shell is just a disaster.

I havnt found anyone doing them, just seen them about, people do a full resto on one its like £5-6k.

Ive been off for 3 weeks, and in them 3 weeks I could of got my ms working, but know gotta get into the swing of that again, theres quite alot of rust so got to ask my dads mate to see if hell sort it out for me, and I just think its going to give me problems in the future too, and I wanna save up for a house and not keep spending on the car.

Thats why you need to have a good one in the first place... Bit late now mind...

There comes a point where you spend so much getting it sorted that nothing else can go wrong... But by then you may have lost interest and then the next buyer gets all the benifit of all your money!! 

If you want a car that don't cost much and don't need any work doing - then DON'T Buy a 20+ year old car!!!

If you're saving for a house don't spend 5-6 grand on restoring a mk2 golf!!!!

Sort the car out, functionality wise...make it work how it should, polish it, sell it, then buy a push bike.... you'll save no end!:smiley:

I aint restoring  I know you should get a good one but when theres rust under the rear lights then how would I of found that lol.

ah whatever anyway ill just fix it and sell it then Least ill know how to find a decent one in the future!

Sorry to hear your not feeling the love Toby.

I have a dry stored - since 1999 -  mint, zero rust, Mk2 3 door shell begging me for a restoration, but I can't be arsed as the valver is still alive.

Rust is the only issue I would personally be concerned with, what areas need doing? If its just the usual arches etc not a huge problem and common.a sorted mk2 as in OEM+ yes 5 to 6k but all depends on what has been done and condition of the shell.
