Digifant is unwell...HELP!!
« on: 17 February 2005, 11:27 »
Got a problem with my '91 GTI 8v Digifant .

seems to be playing up when the engine warms up and feels as tho only 3 cyclinders are firing. Seriously underpowered and have had to limp home a couple of times. The problem is not consistant and doesn't seem to occur when the engine is cold. Usually starts after around 5 mins. Revs won't go any higher than about 3500rpm.

I checked the sparks and they are firing up ok. Can anyone point me in the right direction as I will have my head under the bonnet on Friday afternoon...weather permitting.

Thanks

I had the same happen to mine - what fuel you using ? Have u changed lately ??

I ended up changing the MAF / Coil / Dizzy / Rotor ar and cap / cleaning the throttlebody / changing pipework / new ignition amp and still it was their although a lot better - I used one tank of BP ultimate around the time, went back to Optimax and no problem ??

It's been as good as gold since, but I have only used optimax (I always do too other than that one tank in 2 years now !)

check for air leaks everywhere especially in the pleated hose. also check your ignition timing. i reckon it will either be fuel or spark related

Problem seems to have been resolved. There is a oil temp plug (I think) on the side of the block. Without inspection, you cannot see if the plug is connected due to the rubber jacket it wears. After unplugging and plugging everything I could find, I think this was the problem...car is behaving itself once again!
