Painting Gti grille red stripe
« on: 28 December 2010, 22:32 »
I want to paint the red stripe on my Mk2 Gti grille, but Halfrauds have quite a few different VW reds. Does anyone know if the original grille was a certain shade of red, or is it just a case of picking which looks best?

I refurbished my grill with some Ferrari Rosso Corsa (300/12) that I had laying round the workshop a couple of years ago, this turned out to be a perfect match to the red on my grill. VW tornado red, is nothing like the OE colour, that's why I went through all my half used tins of different reds, till I found one that matched, and just happened to be a Ferrari colour, Halfords should be able to put some in a rattle can, like any other colour...

Yeah, looked at the cans in Halfrauds, and the Tornado Red definitely looks a bit dark. Mars Red looks more suitable.

Do you get good results with pinstripe then? I was under the impression painting it looked better and was more hard wearing.

Also trying to get it round the curves does take some time and patience!

Yeah, that's why I thought it would be just as easy to paint it! I just want the best and most authentic looking finish though.
