G60 parts sharing with Digi?????

Hi all. Hope you had a good Christmas. Anyway. I've just purchased a 1H engine, (Rallye), from a friend on a local forum. It isn't complete. All that's included, infact, is the block, head, charger brackets, dizzy and some bits n bobs. I've just sourced a Rado G60 loom, so that's nice! What I am in need of knowing is, which parts from the standard 8v PB Digifant does it share the major parts with? I'm thinking things like inlet and exhaust manifolds, alternator, etc. I'm looking at collecting all the parts required, over how long it takes, and building up an OEM G60. The crank bolt has sheared, which apparently is a common fault? Therefore, which other crank could I use? Pref one that's a bit shorter throw, to increase cc's.....

Can't you get the remains of the crank bolt out? Failing that get yourself another G60 crank. If you want to up the cc's then 3 obvious options;

Get the block bored out and stick some oversized pistons in. Best deal for the parts you'll need are from Adam at HeadFirst - 01889 570765. Think it's £675 for pistons and gaskets etc.

Get hold of a 92.8mm crank (9a/6a 16v engine) and some 144mm rods and some custom pistons (although G-werks do some off the shelf, but not cheap at £600 a set) to get 1984cc/2008cc depending on piston size. (this is the option I'm going for).

You can also use a diesel crank which is a longer throw again I believe, but have never looked into this so don't know the ins and outs.

With regard to crossover parts, most of it is different I believe, inlets/throttle body/alternator etc are different. Exhaust wise you're prob best off getting a 4branch if you want a few extra horses, but if you want to go standard I have two manifolds with downpipes for £15ea.

Has there been any damage to the head following the crank bolt shearing off?

Just text him and he said "possibly bent valves, but not sure". I was planning on a full strip down, investigate and rebuild with new parts if reqd. I have a few friends in engineering, so getting the old bolt out won't be too hard. Is there an uprated bolt that you know of that would eliminate the risk of this happening when it's fitted into my GTI?

Vw uprated the bolt, known problem. Might as well replace the crank pulley at the same time.

I have never known a G60 shear a crank pulley bolt.

they are known for doing keyways in the cranck and frount pullys.


if its got to the point where bolt's snaped th ecranck is likly scrap anyway.   you'll be happy to hear that any 1.8 cranck can be used to replace it

fuel rail and fpr are the same, thats just about it really. injectors and inlet differ as does pretty much everything else in the bay. 8v zaust will bolt up tho.
