« on: 16 February 2005, 22:17 »
Just a small question, does the rear washer jet have to be working to pass and MOT, just had to take water pump out of one and into the other for MOT on friday, the rear is not working but front is, will this pass?

if the mot station does a free re-test then just take it in and see, if it fails buy a washer if not then replace it at your leisure. i think it will probably need to be working though.

Only the front wipers and washer jets need to work for the MOT.

You don't need rear washer or wiper to work to pass the MOT. The wiper blade can even be split on the rear. Hang on I'll see if I can dig out the legislation for you

This is a fantastic resource:-

If it ain't in there it isn't tested..........one of my drinking buddies is an MOT tester and we've yet to find fault with this. You're ok with your washer

yeah just take off the wiper , if its not there it doesnt need to work , i have once heard of an extream where a bloke took the windscreen out of his can n took the wipers off, if theres nothing there to clean then they dont have to work

I'm pretty sure there is no need to remove it. Check that manual. I've submitted cars for their MOT with the rear wiper absolutely knackered (ex split windscreen wiper) and they haven't even looked at it.

back washer and wipe are not included in the MOT, my old XR2i's back wiper didnt work, and the blade was split as well, buit it failed on other things like welding underneath and my sunstrip i had on it was a fail as well????!!!

Thats when i sold the fiesta and got me golf... yay!
