i toldyou from the start to put washers on to check the clearance you need! 12 mm will need to be hubcentric, more money.

225 tyres and you wouldnt have had this problem, 235 are too wide for the fronts on mk4s

yes new bolts are needed for 12mm spacers

Rim width won't really make any difference as it's the tyre touching not the rim...

You can still run the 225 or 215s on the 8.5J rim they will just have a bit of stretch

ye i know they will be hubcentric. the place i got these 5mm spacers from do 12mm and 15mm for rear 65 quid a pair. think i need to pay extra for longer bolts.when i tried the to 5mm together (purely for sizing up not running on),even with a 235 tyre it gave me about 2mm clearance on the suspension so if i get these 12mm ones for front i shudnt have to change the tyres will i???

I am one for thinking 19's are too big on a Golf MK4, 235 are bit too wide...

I think 225 width tyres will sort your problem.

ok thanks for advice. if bigger spacers dnt solve it i will strip the fronts and put 225's on aswell as 10mm spacer.then shud be fine. the 19's are hassle sorting but look nice. i llike 18's but some serious slamming and dish and i dnt wanna fork out thousands on wheels.the mrs has past her test so she will be using the golf alot.

Undo the top mounts and remove the helper spring from the coilovers,this will allow the height adjuster to sit way above the tyre while still allowing a decent drop thus solving the problem.

+1 do this, even paying someone to do it should be cheaper than the spacers, cos i can bet with a 235 tyre then your close to the arch?
