heavy steering

took the golf out today incase it was getting jealous at all the attention the csi has been getting.
how heavy is the steering, i forgot it was that bad, but after the pas on the bmw i really noticed it, think i need a pas conversion.
on the good side it was fun except the gear leaver is so much lower.
what pas unit would i need for this to convert it?

I know what you mean, when I've driven newer cars and get back in mine I realise how cr@p the gear change is and how stiff my clutch pedal is, but I still love it !  :grin: :grin:

As for the PAS, not sure what you need but there is a firm somewhere that does these conversions for over 1k I think, but I can't remember who.  :shocked: Not much help there really was I.  :tongue:

I might be looking into putting PAS onto a 1.3 mk2. might prove too costly though. let me know how your findings come about carrie. I'm sure others have done it no problem.

the bmw is 3 years older than the golf, my clutch is quite light though.

thinking outside the box here:

1) disable the PAS on the BMW.
2) join a gym

:) I know what you mean though. took 1906 out on Sunday - wonderful performance - appalling heaviness on the steering.

You say you have left the golf standing for a while ?

Have you checked the tire pressures in the front wheels ?

I know there will be a noticable difference between PAS and not , but you never know a couple of PSI makes a hell of a diff .

once you drive it for a while, you get used to the heaviness of the steering, to the point where you do every thing one handed!!

the one handed thing might be your way mix, but i save things like that fr home  :grin: :grin:
the tyre pressure is about 2-3 psi over to try to keep steering lighter.
tin the car is nearly 1.5 ton so it would make the goolf seem light but  when i hit the first bend i fear i may regret it  :smiley:

tsr do conversions but its over a grand, get some arnie arms and then you wont notice the difference.
