DAB on latest RNS510

I have tried as hard as I can to read this forum to see if DAB is ever going to work with the RNS510, so sorry if this is mind numbingly dull for all!

I'm about to order a GTD and am punting for the RNS510 (especially as the forum indicates that full postcode search is possible with v7 of the software & maps coming on 2011 builds), but the VW dealer insists (even with the 2011 pricing and spec list and checking with VW head office) that the DAB is not an option with the RNS510.

Does anyone know (esp. Darren / mortygt140) if this is because the VW elves are unable to connect everything along their production line (and can be connected after-market) or if there is no hope?

I have to admit I have DAB on the RCD510 and haven't used it yet, its pretty much useless AT THE MOMENT as no local radio stations (in my area) transmit on it, well not that the car can receive any way.  Good old Analog Radio.  Maybe that will change come end of next year when the digital to Analog switch over of tv occurs, but rumour has it radio is not until 2015.  Even then it could take years, probably wont even have the car by then it'll be a mk7.

There is an actual space for it on the audio board in the RNS510 but to actually fit it you would need a damaged RCD510 with the DAB, if you can find one. Then you would need to go back to revision 900/1100 firmware has that suppported the DAB stations after that it was taken off.

The only alternative would be to buy an aftermarket digibox designed for the RNS they can be found on eBay for around £270 These should be able to do but just will not give you the info in the Radio presets.

Thanks for the advice. By the sounds of things (forgive the pun) it looks like DAB is not actually any good in the countryside, so I'll forget about it for the moment. Maybe it will be easier in a year or so, but I can't imagine they'll switch off analogue while I have the car.
