MK4 golf tappets

Hi dubbers

Im new to vw engines and was wondering about having the tappets sorted on a 1.4 mk4 1999,
Car is superb apart from idling as far as im aware. this is on a vehicle iv just secured and just need to pick it up (250mile trip to do)
 any info or advise is greatfuly recieved

Frogot to mention it is prity noisy so im only asuming its the tappets, but it dosnt sound like its going to go bang if that makes scence

oil flush and change change first with genuine filter,  if that don't work remove and clean or repalce then refit

cool,think il do that once iv got it home, any particular engine flush brand or just anything half diecent??

forte is reccomended by meany,  personaly is use the kill or cure method an go for the liter of ATF and drive it for 100 miles
