fuel prob...tried and failed.
« on: 25 August 2003, 21:13 »
:-\Thanks for the advice on my mk2 fuel prob, lower down  the page..
But i  tried the throttle switches and even put a new throttle body on for good measurebut unfortunatly the problems still there.
Any other ideas please,i even went and priced up a new engine-but i still think that it must be something simple!!!
Also can any one tell me if the idle screw on the throttle body changes with the year of manufacture?

cheers in advance

U GET A BETTER RIDE ON 15 INCHES..

I know of at least 2 types of idle screw. One type you just use a flat bladed bit and the other you can use a flat bladed bit or 7mm socket to adjust idle.

Just tried a new temp sender plug-but still the same,i think it might be new ECU time!

The new throttle body i put on has created a new problem >:(-which i can always change back...cos i used the idle screw from my original throttle body, ive had to disconect the idle speed valve to get the car to run at 1000rpm min. With  the idle speed valve conected, the rpm goes up 3000. And the idle screw does nothing - hence my question about the idle screw.
Is replacing the ECU a big job and can i you uses a second hand 1????

cheers once again. .

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

Tried the above, but still no joy.Was  told by a re;iable vw source that the last thing  to check is the ECU.
I cant find anything on it in the 'haynes'.
Were is the ECU and how do you know if you need a new one.
I know of a donor car, where i can take one,are they easy to install and will you know instantly if it works.

Ive been offered a 8v with 130,000 on it-im that  down with my 'miss' problem,im tempted to buy it just for the engine!!!

regards 15"

I doubt fitting a new engine will make any difference.
