Mk2 power steering fluid leak

Hi guys,

My 91 Mk2 GTI has developed a power steering fluid leak and due to the snow I can't jack the car up anywhere secure to have a proper look.

The reservoir emptied itself a few weeks back and the pump started being noisy but I topped the fluids back up straight away. However, the car has been sat for about 3 weeks and when I pulled it out of the garage yesterday I noticed the levels were low again and a big patch of fluid on the floor under the passengers side of the car. Topped it up again and after 100 miles of driving the levels are ok so it must be a small leak.

Are there common areas for the p/s rack to leak, seals etc? As it's the passengers side I'm thinking it's hopefully not the pump.

Mine leaks from the pipes itself on the passengers side. Run your hand along the pipes from the reserviour to the pump.

Mine was the resevoir tank itself, had a minor crack somewhere in it so it slowly lost fluid unlike yours, Start it up and see if you can see it gushing from anywhere nearby resevoir etc...

U can pick a resevoir up of flee bay for around 15 quid, not bad quality either...

Do sort it quick. No fluid = nackerd pump.

just hope its not on the PS rack itself. such a chore

I've still not been able to have a proper look yet. Driveway has been solid sheet ice for the past week. Wish the snow/ice would f*ck off now. Having said that I've done about 300 odd miles and the level hasn't noticeable dropped with no stains on the drive 

Car is overdue a service so hoping blitz it all this week at some point while I have some time off.
