Took the car to my mates garage and he pluged it in to his dio came up with 3 of faults.

First. 00537    Lambda control (lower valve)
        00515    Hall sensor
        00283    speed sender front left???????

could any of these be my problem and what do they do??

Have u tried just disconnecting the maf? Have u noticed it only happening at between about 3k and 3800 rpm? Disconnect the lead to it when switched off, have a drive and see how it goes, then connect back up again. It free so worth a try anyway! My maf sensor was the culprit, but after spraying it with contact cleaner, all I get now is a very slight hesitation at the same point. Just waiting for it to give up totally before I fit my new one. Hope this helps.

Lambda control reads your fuel/air mixture exiting your exhaust - could be an air leak (Vac pipes), Oxygen sensor could be faulty or wiring to it (plug sits on the rear engine mount so you can follow the wiring from there) or fuelling could be an issue. This could play a part in your fault.

Hall sensor is built into the distributor - you'll see a black connector going into the dizzy, check it for oil or maybe someone had unplugged it at some point and it came up with the fault. Hall sensor faults aren't normally associated with what you are experiencing but anythings possible

Thing is with reading memories is that the faults could have occurred some time back so until you clear them and re-scan them you'll know if they are part of the problem for sure. I would clear them, take it for a good long run, get the fault to occur a lot and then see what comes back

From that list, I'd say speed sender.

Which Javalin actually got close on the second post.

I had problems with mine and although the normal thing is cutting out and not starting up again, they can just misfire. Mine was a very intermittent misfire when accelerating (gently, not hard), and at first I thought it may have been the wiring but it was the sensor itself, early stages of failing.

I'm hoping OP checked that when it was suggested too

i'd start your own thread as its a different engine, with probably a different problem.
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

It been a long time coming but last week i finally fixed my missfire problem. I would like to say thanx for all the advice you guys gave and post what the problem was as many dont. It turned out to be the Hall sender changed that and bingo runs like a dream.
