Re mapping & Insurance

Hi guys, do what is your experience with the insurance companies when you ring to advise of a tuning modification or is it simply a case of keeping it on the quiet and hoping you get get caught when accident etc?

If you do update them what happened to your premiums?

Thanks in advance.

i would say alot of insurance companies will simply refuse to take on a modded car, or increase the price by £1000's, however there are a few companies who are more modding friendly, the two i know of are greenlight and adrian flux.

I think its best to declare all mods if possible as insurance companies will try and find any excuse to not have to pay out, just my opinion of course.

it's impossible to say what an insurance company will charge for mod's as all company's charge different price's, id ring your insurance for a quote on diffrent mod's before actually going ahead with them, declairing mod's is a must as if some arsehole smash's into you i garantee your insurance will use your undeclared mod's as a way of getting out of paying out, hope this help's?

Depends. With directline, any mods were a no-no.

With a modfriendly insurer, I pay no premiums for any cosmetic/safety mods (eg brakes, ARBs, tinted windows etc) but a premium for performance upgrades. Mine charged me £50 for stage 1 remap. £20 admin every time I ring up to add a mod.

Greenlight are pretty good and are a forum sponsor, I used to be with them. I lost the ability to be with Greenlight and am now with Bell who were happy to take me on with mods.
