Just checked my mates golf. 1.6s. The oil level is about an inch above max!!!! What can this do to the engine? Told him he needs to drain it, but not doing it now.

I've done the same thing before. If you drive it like that the long and the short is that his car will get f**ked ha don't drive it like that. I used a syringe in the dip stick tube to suck it all out. It worked really well.

As above syringe and some clear plastic tubing down the dipstick tube will be the best course of action.
If left it will / may cause damage.
