is this the worst revo stage 1 result ever?
« on: 11 December 2010, 17:43 »
Poor results on dyno,  car is golf gti mk5,  191.1 hp at the wheels, aprox 224 bhp at the fly,  253.4 ftlb, stage 1 revo, prepped the car well before remap, checked and sorted any boost leaks, new dv, new pcv, full service, new spark plugs , oil filters, is this the worst revo stage 1 remap result ever? As revo state gains of a lot more, settings are b7  t6  f9,  thanks in advance

on which dyno?

its not about how much peak bhp the car has, it about how the car feels, 224bhp 253lbft is about the nor for a spec 1 map, i bet you have upto 40bhp gains at some parts of the power curve.

i would be happy seeing gains of 60lbft and 40bhp in the mid range, i wont be too worried about peak bhp.

Hi, thanks for the reply, just so confused on other forums they say  it is very low on power, I am more inclined to agree with you as I be leave that revo claims are over estimated, the car drives fine and feels good, have read a lot on this forum about you and your company and very impressed, just wish you were closer to me, I have emailed you a graph of the dyno result would really appreciate it if you could have a look and advise me your thoughts , Also purchased vcds and hopping to do some logs, what blocks would you recommend logging. thanks in advance

I would not worry too much m8, its just that is seems like your dyno op gave you realistic power readings and not optimistic customer happy graphs.

Most tuners quote on there higher side, I have done it in the past but now found a better realistic way of stating power claims. Its how the industry work.  One tuner will state 210bhp, so another tuner thinks we can do 215bhp, then another 220bhp which is 10bhp up on the realistic base line.  But on some rolling road some of these car might see 220bhp from the old dyno lottery which helps them back claims up.

We now tend to quote power gains not expected peak power,  So we would say to a customer you will get 40bhp/60lbft but not necessary on the peak outputs.

I have drove a few Revo stage1 mk5 GTIs and I was very happy with how the car felt afterwards.

The LCRs have been like this since day dot, some tuners quote 270bhp from a stage 1 map near enough 50bhp over the peak stock power off 222bhp, but on rolling roads they will only see at the best 250bhp.  So where is the extra 50bhp?  its in the midrange and if you look at tuned dyno graphs vs stock graphs you will see huge gains and not huge peak number.

Just have a look at JKM dyno gallery, like us they have a realistic dyno not an optimistic setup.  You will see many stage2 cars making really disappointing peak willy waving pub talk power, but on the road the are very very quick cars and the customers are very happy with how it feels on the road.

I bet if all the stage 1 tuned mk5s GTIs went on the JKMs dyno the avergare power will be in the same window as yours.

Fair comments from RTech above - very transparent.

Did you do a power run pre map?

Were you happy with the performance difference post and pre map?

We give back to back power runs layed over each other, this way the customer can see huge gains where it counts, but just by having a graph of the tuned power wont really show much as most cars tend to tail the power off at the top end due to turbo ve.
