RNS 510 MDI cable?

Hi there, first post so hello to all. I have just bought an Ed30 which I'm having a lot of fun with! It has he RNS510 (B I think) and I want to add some decent ipod control, better then the CD emulation thing that it has now, I want to browse by track name, artist etc etc.

I am fairly sure I need one of these but I need to know if i need one of these too (not the cable but the housing) ??

Basically I just want to leave my ipod in the glove box and I don't need the plastic housing jobbie. However, looking at the price of it I am assuming it's a relevant part of the hardware but can't I just plug the ipod cable straight into the other cable without the platic bit?

yes you an get a kit that goes into the glovebox its uses the module that is actually in that big black plastic box, 

Have a look through german ebay and you should pick a bargain up.

The plastic housing is for use in the armrest, what armrest do you have?
