Thinking about a MK6 GTI
« on: 10 December 2010, 17:31 »
Alright guys,

Its fast becoming the time to ditch my beloved MK5 GTI for something newer.
Thinking about a 2nd hand candy white 3dr MK6 GTI.

Afew questions though.....

- Stage 1 remap increases? Whats available and costs?
- Rear lights? Whos changed them over for the "R" ones and cost?
- Any known issues?
- Any advise?

Cheers guys

Couldnt tell you much about the maps, someone will be long soon for that
rear lights I think were 400-ish all in, fitting was a doddle
no issues as such from me, more just annoyances like rattles etc.
buy one, thats my only advice.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Maps wise you are looking at a steady 255-260bhp at the least.

Price wise it's a bit difficult to comment. For example REVO software and the SPS switch are around £500 together and then there's insurance. Alternatively private firms can be as little as £250.

I can't really comment on the rear lights because I kept the originals.

No real issues that I can think of. We all have our own little niggles and squeaks but on the whole they are fabulous cars.

Sounds good except the colour.....

Think about the items that come in white i.e. White goods such as....

Dishwashers

Microwaves

Fridges

Etc.

You also get quite a lot of bathroom products in this "special colour"

Showers

Toilets

Sinks

Urinals

I agree white suited the mk5 but dark colours suit the mk6 better.

I feel that the Mk6 looks extremely attractive in Candy White. It gives the appearance of a car hewn out of a solid metal billet.

Even though I am not an avid lover of black alloys, these suit a white Mk6 to a tee and give it a very stealth-like look.

As for the older Mk5 being better suited to white: I don't think so. This car has too many unnecessary dark plastic add-ons which inadvertently cheapen its overall appearance IMO.
