Golf GT TDI Central Locking Gremlins
« on: 08 December 2010, 14:18 »
Hello.

I am having some interesting issiues with the central Locking on my 2003 GT TDI.

It all started when the boot stopped opening when remotely unlocking (The only time the GF has gone to get something from the car :P). So first thought is the fault lies here.

Since then all the following have been happening (periodically) when unlocking/locking remotely; (worth noting everything works fine when using the key in the door this is only a issue after using the remote)

Locking: Alarm arms / LED flashes, but car does not lock. (Remedy; unarm with remote then lock manually with key, Alarm arms, indicators flash, LED blinks, all doors lock as normal AOK)

After unlocking remotely with one press, alarm disarms and both doors unlock? (car is set tot he factory setting, one press for drivers, two for boot and passenger door and I have never attempted to change this, hence the question mark), indicators do not flash. Start car, no problems there and drive off. However a few minutes into the drive one of two things may (or may not) happen. Hazard warning lights come on and stay on (static not flashing) for about 5-10mins before going back off at thier own will (This can also happen after locking it remotely). And/Or the passenger door will attempt to repeatedly lock and unlock itself whilst driving, only stopping when the door is opened then closed again. In addition to this the boot is only ever accessable by key, locking remotely but never remotely unlocking. (No clunk sound normally heard if remotely unlocked)

Whilst I can get round it by using the old fashioned key in the door method, and car is securely locked and armed, it's really annoying to have to jump into the car and turn the ignition before the alarm goes off.

Any pointers before I spend hundreds at the garage?

Cheers

Welcome

It sounds like one or some of your door modules are faulty.

ideally you should get the fault codes read by a garage or someone local to you who has VAGCOM to try and pinpoint exactly what the problem is before spending out £100 per module (part only cost mind!)

Its also problem that the boot micro switch has failed (common problem)  Again a scan with the diagnostic software should be able to pinpoint this

Try to avoid the dealers and find a good VW specialist or a forum member local to you who has the software and will only charge you beer tokens

HTH

Thanks for the reply I will look into it, because as of this morning locking with the key now leaves the interior light on and the alarm unarmed.

With the key do you not need to hold it over in the locked position and it will deadlock the car? Could well be wrong with this though.

AFAIK holding it in the locked position will close the windows.  I would have thought the deadlocks are enabled purely by locking it  :undecided:

I could be wrong too as I can't remember the last time I used a key to lock / unlock a car

Well I have had a VAGCOM run FOC and will post the codes as soon as I get a copy tonight.

Mechanic hinted it was the passenger side door lock that was casuing the problem but couldn't be sure. So I took it on the chin to replace (he was replacing the window regulator in the door anyway for a window fault). But it hasn't fixed it. He now want's to replace the main central locking module which I am a bit dubious about. Is this a different part to the door modules? Or could he be refering to the door module?

Also the boot issue is a puzzle to him, in that if they run external power to the solinoid it fuctions but when run as part on the normal system no power is reaching it. He advises that the boot opens manually by key at both horizontal and vertical postions if you spin the key all the way round, befor eit only used to open manually at 2-3 O'clock (angle). Any ideas or regular hot spots where the circuit is broken? Or is the lock itself shafted?

Sorry I know nothing of these things.

Many Thanks for any replies.

OK fault codes, if anyone can advise/interperet I would be grateful.

01038 - Central Locking Thermal Protection
           35-00 - -

00950 - Central Locking Motor - Tailgate (V53); UNLOCK
           25-10 - Unknown Switch Condition - Intermittent

00849 - S-contact at ignition/starter switch (D)
           25-10 - Unknown Switch Condition - Intermittent

Also where as locking manually by using the key in the drivers door worked previously, it now (periodically) does not arm the alarm, turn off the interior light or lock the passenger door... :(
