Alan:

They cost an arm, a leg and two LED DRL Bi-Xenons!

I have priced this. If one wants the whole shebang, that is auto-levellers + cornering, the total cost is between £1400 and £1475, depending on exchange rates. Then add a five hour labour charge to get the lot up and running. The housings on their own cost approximately £800 for a pair.

An expensive mistake  not to have factory ordered these.

Oh definitely.

Anyone that retro fits them and pays that much needs their head examined.

You don't have to insinuate I am mad. So not nice as the truth hurts.

Only £350 more than the factory. Price of a high end prostitute in London!

Erm...an (un)educated guess and by checking the R and Mk5 forums!

The R ones as they have overspent on their cars, the Mk5 ones as they sorely need upgrading!

The cost of your retro-fitted GTI is creeping towards R territory with what you have planned for it.

Creeping very, very slowly, but not and never be there.
Still at least £3500 less than a base R when everythings done.

Phil: I bought the car at a very good discounted price as it was a cancelled order as the previous guy was sick of waiting and went and bought himself a Mercedes.

He had ordered the car in June '09 and cancelled his order in December '09. I, by chance, rang the dealer on that very day, and low and behold they had one allocation left. They promised delivery in Jan'10 but I ended up getting it in March '10. So it took a heady ten months to get the car.
