IIRC you have a little engine in yours dont you Craig, so im gessing you might have thiner drive shafts over us GTI boys.
You are right about ARBs = Anti roll Bars and the reson thay are in the car is to help stiffan up the Chassis. Some people take them off to go really low or like what Wazzzer said you can get diffarant ARB from Eibach or whiteline. The reson for puting these in is because the ARB goes over the Drive shaft, so when you lower your car the distance between the arb and driveshaft is made smaller, thus making potential contack between the two. The aftermarket ARBs have eather a bigger loop to avode this or that go under the drive shaft.
this is a Eibach ARB which has a much bigger loop compeard to standerd.



The drop links are used to conect the ARB to the wish bones. The ajustable ones can be used to make the loop a little bit more bigger to preven the driveshaft and arbs coming ito contact agane.
