timing/cam belt
« on: 12 February 2005, 10:49 »
I have a 1999 t reg gti mk4 only done 19000 miles, cars coming up-to 6 years old. When will the cam belt need renewing, is just miles related or can age affect cam belts any advice????

They reckon about 80000 miles or 5 years if you ask the dealership, 60000 to be on the safe side. Get it inspected if you're concerned, it may be coming to the end of its life.

Yup, I agree with topher, although it hasnt done many miles 6 years is more than enough time for the cambelt to start to perish, get it checked out it'll be cheaper than if it goes
......now officially dubless.

This question has come up for me this year.
My mums W reg Polo has only done 20000 miles, but the belt is 5 years old.
I spoke to my contact at colbornes in woking, he said change it at 60k, so i will probably leave it at least another year.
Its up to the individual owner really, but a cam belt is made to be tough (if its a genuine part), and should be fine after 5 years.
