Heated Front Seat Issue? Anyone else had a problem

Asked my mate at the garage but he said he no good with electrics so thought I'd ask.  When i got the motor, they both worked as I got 3 door  but as it was snowing, I think the back of my coat was wet and I turned it on and it never worked since, the passanger one did work but I think the same happened over the year as I turned it on for a journey to the lakes thinkin it was funny (only coz i'm a dumb fook who has been gullible enough to fall for it on a journey to London in a mates car.....

.......anyhoooooow, now they both dont work.  Checked the fuse and that looks good.  My Haynes manual doesn't cover a fault FAQ on this topic so wondered if anyone had any suggestions or past experience or someone good with the electric side of things.

My drivers one works thank god, but my passenger one gave up the ghost about a year ago, the drivers one has been replaced already by the stealers cost my brother about £175 or there about on offer that is as they said normally the job is £250.

Apparently it's just one of those things that go after a certain time, it's only a sheet of what looks like tough paper with thin wires running through it IIRC and over time it has a tendancy for one of the thin wires to break, breaking the circuit and the whole lot don't work apparently.
Someone may need to correct me on the info above but I think i'm right in what i'm saying.

So basically in a nut shell if the fuse is alright then the heating element is probably fooked, there is a DIY guide on mkiv's forum but looks like alot of headache to be honest. If you do go down the DIY route you might aswell change the sponge inside whilst it's all apart or the bolsters if their knackered.
