mk3 8v 1st gear problem

hi guys,

wonder if you can help me out here.

Ive gt a mk3 N reg 3 door golf 8v 2.0 GTI - the problem is when im in 1st gear and get up to 5000 revs ish the revs cut off and drop down forcing me to change gear ???

Please help !

yeh just first gear bro.

2nd 3rd 4th etc = OK

sum1 told me to shove injector cleaner in, have done so for teh last week to no avail.

Maybe the gear or bearing is shagged. Not really a gearbox expert myself. Try going to a specialist.

When the engine cuts, does the rev counter drop suddenly like the ign has been turned off?.

yes mate it does. the rev counter drops sharply.  

Do these cars have a cut off point ? for revs that is.

Yeah they should have a cut off, but should do the same in every gear though. When the engine hits the rev limiter it usually bounces off rather than drops sharply.

With the engine running, wiggle the wires to the coil, injectors etc, and see if the engine dies. (dont touch the plug leads :o). Steve
