do you guys know why you get the YLOD?
After much research i found out that the reason behind the ylod was the soldering on the CPU GPU was melting, the solder is LEAD FREE which has a lower melting point. After some rules and regs in the europe and other countries, sony and other big manufactures have stopped using lead solder (lead solder has a higher melting point). and are now using LEAD FREE based solder. the best bet is, find a local repair shop that does REBALLING (these are the tiny solder that you get on the processors and all the tiny componants on circuit boards) & ask them to use LEAD solder (on the side jobie). Smeone around your area will do this for you, it shouldnt realy cost more the £50 for reballing (thats if you have stripped the board out yourself) £50+ if you havent taken the board out. And then after the repair has been done make sure you get a recipt as some people offer upto 6 months warrenty. I have 3 ps3 (old/fat) waiting at home and will have the board REBALLED this will stop the ylod. Because the games are so fast & graphic intense the cpu & gpu get VERY hot which cause the solder to melt then you get the YLOD or RROD. Oher thing i would advise is to get on of them cooling fans (EBAY) with as many fans as possible, which in the long run will make your ps3 last longer.
Hope this makes you understand better,
