« on: 11 February 2005, 18:47 »
well i got as far as getting the caliper off and all the old bits.  Got the new discs and pads on and couldnt fit the caliper over them.  The haynes manual said push it in with a block of wood, i triied this but there was no way that this was working.  Tried belting them in but this didnt work.  How the hell do i get the pistons in?  Is my caliper ceased im gutted coz i got all wet and mucky

think you have to remove the break fluid cap first, then bash/rewind them back in

u have to remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and then wind the piston back in. i used some long nose pliers and some elbow grease!! there is a vw tool to do it, but its expensive. u can also use two allen keys with a spanner aswell. good luck!

thx for your help guys, i didnt think of taking the brake fluuid cap off.  It sort of makes sense now.  I'm going to have a nother go tomorrow.  Lets hope its not raining, everytime i work on the car it rains.  What i want to know is why doesnt the haynes manual say take the cap off?  Or maybe they presume that you wouldnt be thick enough to leave it on
thx again
