Steamed up windows
« on: 28 November 2010, 16:16 »
My car is fine when running, but when left during the day or over night the inside windows get really steamed up. It's a right pain especially this time of year as it gets ice on the inside.
I am starting to think a family of immigrants are living in the boot!!!

I checked the carpets and all dry, no water in the boot either.
Is this a common problem with the mk3?

Also noticed something else today, I went for a long drive and the temp gauge didn't get above 70, it never used to do this. Could it be related.

Cheers

I'll be suprised if they're related, the temp is almost certainly a sign that you need a new thermostat.

The steaming up could be a sign that you have a leak somewhere or it could just be moisture that is brought into the car on clothing/shoes, for a good idea on how to help prevent it check out this thread in the mk2 section:

Had a look at that Mk.2 thread and it's good advice. I had hellish trouble with misting up for a while due to a water leak. Solved the leak but misting remained as car was so sodden. Took to leaving a little chemical moisture absorber unit in the car overnight and she's dried out a treat. One thing though, don't be too suprised if it doesn't work when the weather is as cold as it is just now. All the moisture freezes before the unit has a chance to get hold of it!
