Throttle Body

hello guys,

How easy/hard is it to clean a throttle body on a 2003 1.8t gti?

Im no mechanic but have very good diy skills around the house and stuff, oh and no access to VagCom.

I have seen threads on how to do it, looks easy enough, but what worries me is the DBW/Cable thing where you need to reset or break the TB?.... is it that bad really?

any help or advice would be greatfull

here's a guide on removal/cleaning http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=87783.0 although i notice it forgets to mention there is also an electrical plug on the TB that you obviously have to remove.

provided your throttle body is working correctly it will adapt itself over the next 40 miles or so. Or you can try the other method which just involves leaving the bonnet and drivers door open with the ignition on. It works on my car, but isn't a 100% guarantee.

oh and also ignore the bit about not moving the butterfly valve. with the tb completely removed from the car it's safe to do, and pretty much necessary because the edges of the valve and where it rests at idle are the bits that need to be shiny clean.

So it doesnt matter if its a DBW or Cable? just dismantle, clean with carb cleaner and replace?  if its running a little rough it will sort itself out soon enough?
