Gutted for you.
Not really worth the insurance claim, once you take into account your excess and the fact that it will push your quote up next year due to making a claim.
The little scrotes should be strung up for sure, had my system nicked three times so far! The last time the faceplate wasn't even on the headunit, it was stashed under the dash and unfortunately they found it while they were trying to butcher the immobiliser wiring to make off with the whole car.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

Gutted for you matey. Angers me it really does, little @rse wipes.  Was it the cab or the mk2 ? Unless the stereo is expensive and I mean expensive then no gain to be made from an insurance claim as people have already said.
......now officially dubless.

just been checking out a new dash on ebay.they seem quite cheap so it looks like i'm gonna do the job without going through the insurance.booked in for a new passenger window at 2 o'clock this afternoon.my excess is ?300 and the stereo cost me ?350 so it's not really worth it.a lesson learnt from last night, never park your car in a car park where there is no cctv!!
