strange problems
« on: 26 November 2010, 01:24 »
Hi all, firstly this is a fault on a friends car that happened last winter then cured itself and now its started again. We have no idea what is going on but the fault or faults are :

The door locks on all doors are constantly trying to unlock, even when the car is unlocked and when the car is being driven.

The hazard lights keep flashing when driving

When the key is removed from the ignition the hazard lights flash and the Windows go down.

The car is a 1999 mk4 gti 1.8 n/a . I suggested plugging in a diagnostic kit which the lad said he did but no faults came up. If anyone can help or offer any suggestions I would be grateful.

Thanks

Quick update, my mate now thinks the problem is the black lead (fuse) that goes into the fuse box on top of the battery. I've looked in the haynes manual but its not very clear what this fuse is, does anyone know please?

most generic scanners will only scan for engine faults, you need something a bit fancier or vcds to be able to interrogate the convenience module and see what's going on.
