1.8 8v 4+e engine

Hi all

my mechanic has just told me i need a new engine
so basically has anyone got one i can buy please
it needs to be a 1.8 8v 4+e so it can be a straight swap

any idea whats wrong with it? is it the bottom end thats gone or does it need a new head as well?

if just bottom end fail any mk2 1.8 bottom end will work for you, carbed or gti.  if top end as well need to get one to match what you have now, i assume its a carby mk2?

1.8 4+E is a pierburg carb'd 5 speed. As stated any 1.8 bottom end will do, as for heads you can pick up a carb'd one for cheapness, less than a 100 for a head and block.

to be honest i dont know whats gone on it, my ,mechanic just said i need a new engine and if i can find one thats the same he will put it in for £250
i will phone him and ask

right just phoned him and he said the pistons need replacing because the engine overheated and they got "pinched" in the bore so i would need a new cylinder as well

but to be honest i think he is only interested in doing a straight swap
and i cant be bothered with the hassle
so if anyone wants to by the car and replace the engine your more than welcome
