The GTD engine, with its expensive CR piezo injection has not been used in any Golf prior to the GTD's introduction in 2009.

Spartacus, the point you originally made was that the GTD has the same engine as the MK5, it doesn't.
You reckon the GTD is the same price, incorrect again.

Feel free to do some more 'in-depth research' to correct me.....you'll forgive me for not holding my breath though.....

I posted the link to share the article not start a GTI vs GTD bashing session..or the timing of diesel engine introduction..

OK, tell me where I have bashed the GTD ???????

I am sorry but if you post a link that claims the GTD is better than a GTi on a GTi forum then you are going to get some feedback from GTi owners.
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

Feedbacks great of course, and welcome...I have absolutely no issue with that.
'.....a GTI vs GTD bashing session...' was a statement, nothing more.
I wasnt going to post for a second time but your inaccurate statements forced my hand....

As the old saying goes 'opinions are like ars3holes, everyone has one'......

Take it easy Spart, enjoy your weekend.....

So,,,,,,

take a Mark6 Golf GTi, remove the latest TSi 207bhp turbo engine with 0-60 of 6.5 secs, replace it with a 170bhp diesel engine from the Mark5 Golf GT TDi, charge the same money for it and somehow it is better than the original.

Sorry does not work for me and I am fan of diesels as well.
Apart from its nothing like the old TDI in the old Mk5. The mk6 has a TDI common rail direct injection engine not the old laggy, peaky, noisy, PD unit in the mk5.

Sorry you are wrong

MkV had PD engines when launched then changed common rail diesel engines when they were introduced 2-3 years ago.

There are loads of MkV GT TDi's with the same 170bhp common rail diesel engine in them, being my original point.

The brouchers (i have near all of them for the golf mk5's run) all say PD uptil the end of mk5.(see below) ETKA also seems to only show PD units fitted to the golf mk5. Every mk5 i have seen has the PD(pumpe duse) in it. Maybe im wrong, i hope i am, but i would like to see the info about this change and when it happened to the mk5 golf as VWs own info i have seems to say otherwise :undecided: We always liked the GTsport but it was the idea of the PD again (we have a PD TDI) that put us off. If the last ones have CR i would be interested in one.

I am willing to bet you any some of money what you just said is utter rollocks. Cr engine was not introduced to golf until mk6. The cr engine was first put in the tiguan in febuary 2008 then passat, eos,but never mk5 golf.

Quick search on tinternet found this : Oct 2005 - VW introduce Common Rail :

http://www.autoblog.com/2005/10/20/vw-says-goodbye-to-tdi-hello-to-common-rail/

MkV Golf Common Rail diesel tested :

http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/car-and-driving/volkswagen-golf-tdi-range-1003995.html

So, any sum of money ????

First website is just guessing when it will happen too all models, this is why the marketing word by is used. I remember the stories at the time but it never happend like that.

Second website I will quote a few bits that i seem to read different compared to you I read it as it say its PD not CR.
"The TDI system was once derided as being far less effective than the new wave of common rail diesel engines that have become popular and in terms of refinement, Volkswagens solution has lagged behind. No longer: the difference is now virtually negligible"

"This is the basic concept behind the new 'second generation' of 'common rail' diesels engines that Volkswagen says it's developing in its own time. "

I read all the online reviews I could find. Including reviews of the GTI and Golf R. Many of the GTD reviews seemed to miss the point of this car. Many reviews said, "It's just not a GTI".  The GTI is no Golf R either. I know that the GTD I ordered is not as full-on as a GTI. It should be almost as much fun when I want it to be and far more practical for the mileage I do.

That paragraph from Auto Express hits the nail on the head.

Here is another rewiew of the Golf GTD from Auto Express...

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/grouptests/259084/megane_gt_diesel_vs_golf_gtd.html

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/grouptests/259090/volkswagen_golf_gtd.html

In the second page, I found the following line interesting, especially given some of the earlier comments in this thread...

Quote
But it’s the driving experience that most people will remember. Fitting the company’s punchy 168bhp TDI to the Golf was a masterstroke, as it delivers terrific overtaking pace.

Other reviews have said that mid-range engine performance of the GTD was excellent.

Not much in it on the track... GTD vs GTI...
