GTD - LONG TERM TEST REVIEW
« on: 24 November 2010, 18:29 »
For those interested in the GTD, check this link

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/longtermtests/257830/vw_golf_gtd.html

Autoexpress Editor in chief David Johns also emerged from a weekend behind the wheel raving about its abilities.
“Everything that’s great about a Golf GTI – fast, comfortable, super to drive, practical, flexible, fun – but with much better fuel economy. In fact, I reckon it’s actually better than the GTI. Didn’t want to hand the keys back – it’s that good.”

I share their opinions.....will probably opt for another in '12...

So,,,,,,

take a Mark6 Golf GTi, remove the latest TSi 207bhp turbo engine with 0-60 of 6.5 secs, replace it with a 170bhp diesel engine from the Mark5 Golf GT TDi, charge the same money for it and somehow it is better than the original.

Sorry does not work for me and I am fan of diesels as well.
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

Apart from its nothing like the old TDI in the old Mk5. The mk6 has a TDI common rail direct injection engine not the old laggy, peaky, noisy, PD unit in the mk5.
Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI
34 years of GTI ownership.

Sorry you are wrong

MkV had PD engines when launched then changed common rail diesel engines when they were introduced 2-3 years ago.

There are loads of MkV GT TDi's with the same 170bhp common rail diesel engine in them, being my original point.

I am willing to bet you any some of money what you just said is utter rollocks. Cr engine was not introduced to golf until mk6. The cr engine was first put in the tiguan in febuary 2008 then passat, eos,but never mk5 golf.

Quick search on tinternet found this : Oct 2005 - VW introduce Common Rail :

MkV Golf Common Rail diesel tested :

So, any sum of money ????

The GTD engine, with its expensive CR piezo injection has not been used in any Golf prior to the GTD's introduction in 2009.

Spartacus, the point you originally made was that the GTD has the same engine as the MK5, it doesn't.
You reckon the GTD is the same price, incorrect again.

Feel free to do some more 'in-depth research' to correct me.....you'll forgive me for not holding my breath though.....

I posted the link to share the article not start a GTI vs GTD bashing session..or the timing of diesel engine introduction..
