It isnt that at all. Never mind.

Both cracking cars, I just fail to agree with this statement that the MK6 is "streets" or lightyears ahead of the MK5. Everyone to their own I suppose.

Have to agreed alan. in terms of drive there is very little in it. the main point i made was that the cabin is a nicer place to be than the mk5. This was my main reason for changing from a mk5 to mk6 and hasn't changed.

As for st steve.... well.... i think the oxford dictionary have a picture of him next the word contradiction

Exactly, its clearly going to be a better car. Its newer, got more power etc etc. Some people are talking as if they are comparing it to a MK3, which I didnt agree with is all.

Lock this thread.

Mk5 owners are going nuts. They are trying so hard to convince themselves that their out-of-date cars are better than the M6.

They probably cannot afford to upgrade to MK6s as they have unfortunately and unwisely spent large sums of money to spruce-up their Mk5s which are not worth very much anymore.

Ladies and gentlemaen of the bygone Mk5 era: You cannot turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

Your turn happens next year

Happens to every golf owner..

I can afford a Mk6, but my Mk5 is too good to sell imo  :smug:

unless of course i decide to lease rent one as an alternative

I don't even think there's much in the interior quality either. I clearly had a fairly fault free mk5. Apart from a different steering wheel, most normal people would be hard pressed to know the difference when inside. Outside it's much the same story.

I went to a 6 R so i definatley notice the 4wd grip and it's certainly a bit keener than the 5. But to be honest i loved the rawness of the 5. It really did get back to the ethos of the GTI. Steering wheel, gear knob and go! I loved that car man

me no bite

I dont think its a fair evalutation if you havent owned both the cars in question. rent/lease/finance/borrow are virtually all the same thing and not really much to do with the comparision of the 2 cars either. I doubt there is anyone out there that is paying as little for their MK6 GTI as I am

Ive done approx 150,000 miles in the Mk 4 and then Mk 5, now in a Mk 6.  The Mk 6 is so much better than the Mk 5 in so many ways, least of all the massive improvement over the old PD

yes there are 'little things', the kick plates, the drivers little storage unit isn't lined in carpet etc etc etc etc, but they then spent the money on making what matters so much better.
