I don't belieeeeve it.....!
« on: 21 November 2010, 16:03 »
My screenwash light appeared last week, so thought I top up my and the wife's cars for the winter.
Mine took 3 LARGE pots of screenwash (wow)!

But most annoyingly, I thought I'd check the oil level and the dipstick indicated less than minimum !!
Also the engine water tank was below minimum too !!

I only bought the car in August !!

It's a good thing that I wasn't hungover and that I could be bothered to check !

What?
Was your car on level ground and engine cold when checking the oil level?
Mine has not used a drop of oil since I got it.
Also, coolent level stable.

However, some use more oil than others. But this tends to stabilise with time. Don't think you should worry.

I don't know if its the case with VW but alot of manufacturers ship there cars with minimum fluid levels. This reduces weight and also pollution if it goes titsup. Its suppose to be topped up during PDI.

The other option is you have a leak. So keep an eye on the levels on at least a weekly basis.

Thanks guys, but it was cold and on level ground. In my case I think Snoopy is right.
I thought that all fluid levels would have been filled to at least mid and not min, though !
Or they could have done it at the dealerships when the cars arrive...?

Anyway, I'm sorted now, just a warning for everyone else here who (like me) thought that they may not have to worry about fluid levels until after the winter period !
PLEASE CHECK !

The cars (not sure of VW) are shipped from the factory to the docks onto the ships and then to the dealers with min fluid levels.
The dealer then does a PDI on the car which there is a check sheet for VWs is now computerised and sent straight to VW has sections to say they checked the fluid levels and there suppose to top them upto Max levels.

I would also be checking you don't have the transporter blocks in your suspension springs if it was me!

If Red was nearby, I'd go with him to the dealership and very effectively persuade them that they were incompetent fools and were worse than useless. I miss not using my tongue to kill or maim at ten paces.

This. Waiting 3 months before checking fluid levels isn't clever.

To think I have only but been praising my dealership on this forum.
Snoop - Thanks, I have set a reminder to check this tomorrow.

AM - Thanks Pal, but don't worry my mouth serves me well. If this thing that (Snoop) DoggyDog has asked me to check is still there, look towards the sky tomorrow evening as there will be fireworks from the north !!!

Thanks chaps

Thanks Mac, I know that now (learn something new everyday !)
But I expected better from VW.

I am now older and wiser  :nerd:
