painful renewal quote
« on: 20 November 2010, 17:44 »
just got my renewal from direct line today, after a small bump in march

i was paying £430, renewal is £1412!!!!

it wouldn't be so bad but i didn't even claim!

other party wouldn't let me pay the bill!

Lesson for everyone, avoid Direct Line unless you never leave your driveway!!

in a way i'm glad i'm not the only one! still sucks though. I'll be trying hic as my golf project is nearly up and running. admiral and elephant have quoted about £200 less than anyone else so they're an option too.

My advice would to ring them and discuss it. Don't go crazy at them, just say that you think there's been a mistake. It could be that the case is still "pending" in their claim files and as such it is still showing as an unpaid outstanding matter. Or it could be that as you suggest that someone's pressed the wrong button.

Don't fly off the handle as it will only be the monkey you're talking to, not the organ grinder. If needed, ask to speak to a supervisor. If you go nuts at them straight away they are more likely not to want to do anything for you as you'll have antagonized them. Be calm, and state your case. Remember you don't have to take their offer straight away. Think about it for a few days and get some alternative quotes. But you MUST declare any unsettled claims. Hope this helps.

Keeping schtum. Mostly.
