Sunroof has stoped working
« on: 08 February 2005, 15:39 »
Hi all

I was trying to use my phone charger but it kept falling out of the cigarette lighter socket so I tried to wiggle it so that it would stay in, but in the result of doing so I blew a 15amp fuse that controlled the central locking.
I replaced the fuse and now the central locking is working but the sunroof no longer opens tilt or slide.
there is no noise at all coming from the switch area.
It is hooked up so that when you use the key in the drivers door to unlock the car the windows and sunroof opens after a few seconds,I guess this is standard, well the windows open but not the sunroof.

any Ideas

either there is another fuse gone.. perhaps inline with with the sunroof.. or a wire somewhere burned out?

btw.. semi-related "tip of the day" dont trust visual checks of fuses.. i've had fuses that were gone wheret i couldnt see the break. use a continuity tester.

My money's on another fuse!

I am confused about the windows bit though. I never open mine on the key but am I to understand that when you open your driver's door, your sunroof and all your windows open too? Surely that can't be right - or do you just mean that they can be opened after a few seconds if you want them open?

Thanks Overseer at least I know other people have the same problem.

To me it sounds like a motor problem, I'm going to put a multimeter across the wires going into the motor, turn on the ignition and operate the switch to see if i get a reading that tells me I have power going up to the motor or not.

One thing I have noticed is that when you start the car I thought that the interior light goes out straight away, mine doesn't it takes a few seconds before it does, but I can't remember if this is normal, can someone check for me....

thanks

I found the root of the problem it's now been resolved....

Fuse 16 (15Amp) had an hair line crack in it, this fuse sits in between the ignition switch and the sunroof switch (black and white wire on the sunroof switch).  :embarassed:
The other one to look for for was Fuse 21 this provides power straight to the sunroof motor from the battery(the larger red wire going to pin 5 next to the brown).

Hope this helps people who has a similar problem or in the future
