its a right bugger of a job. you need thin allen bit and extension bits, a mirror also handy. before you undo anything make sure you can get to all 6 inlet manifold bolts! dont want to end up like me and have everything off except the last damn bolt in the middle and have to go out to get more tools

ideally take the carb off, it would be a bit of a faff otherwise. 3 bolts to remove tho and it comes off. can leave fuel puipes on and just move it out the way if you like, but dont turn it upside down ;)

not read all the posts, But my Old R5GTT used to suffer terrible Carb freeze even if the ambient air was sill above freezing (if you ever put petrol on your hand its freezing even when the temp is warm.

If your doing motorway miles its very easy for carb freeze to happen, if its doing it around town its no doubt a adjustment or a blocked jet or enrichment/gasket/vacuum leak.

there is a great Haynes manual on Carbs i recomend picking it up , covers nearly all European carbs from late 1970s to the phase out

should take em under an hour to do it, assuming no issues with rounded off bits. a possible solution would be to put a T piece into the hose coming off the side of the head, and running the pipe from the inlet to that instead, and blank off the inlet connection to prevent coolant loss.  its a bit of a bodge but it should do the trick.
