it should not be this difficult
« on: 14 November 2010, 16:49 »
hi guys,
i am having serious issues removing the gearbox from my mk2 8v gti ... and i really shouldnt be  im not completely inexperienced attempting something out of my ability i could do a clutch change in 40 mins on my capri ...

i have so far spent about 4 hours trying to get the gearbox out of this golf ... everything is undone and was undone within half an hour  i just cant get it off ... the driveshaft flange gets stuck behind the flywheel  it doesnt seem to matter what i do ...  ive trie being underneath it moving it around with both arms ive tried being above with a jack under it ...

the gearbox is scrap there are big holes int he casing where it exploded and i have two spares but i just cannot get the damn thing out ... any ideas before i take an angle grinder to the offending flange ?

Bigger hammer or muscles or even a blow torch  :lipsrsealed:
Tried rocking it free?
Could be a one bolt you have missed?

gearbox flange stuck between the flywheel. That bit piss me off soo bad.

You need another pair of hands. someone to lift it while you twist it out.

i think im gonna remove the bumper and the whole front panel ... and the whole nsf suspension   so i can stand next to it and do it ... its the only way i can see of getting enough acess to maybe manage it ..

or enough acess to get a grinder in and cut it off

ha ha ha you didnt know the flange is spost to come out of the box before you try and remove it then. if you look in the middle of the flange there will be a circlip you need you remove then pull the flange out or some of them there is a 6mm allen bolt
