Mk2 red stripe dashboard
« on: 13 November 2010, 19:31 »
Have spotted a few mk2 dashboards like this and wondered if it was a factory thing on some models or just DIY? 16v thing perhaps?

Can't decide if it's cool or sh*t  :lipsrsealed:

I like it. Proper 80's retro.

If you DIY it then don't like it, it's only cost you a roll of tape.

I may be wrong but always thought US spec GTI's had the red stripe dash (hence the left hand drive in those pics).

I quite like it.

Someone was asking about painting the red on and i made the suggestion of a bit of red coachline tape. I think it looks good and was thinking of doing this to mine.

As for it being cool like a Montego  Come on Thom, the word cool and Montego have never been used in the same sentance

You didn't think that I actually meant that did you? Montego's suck!, so does the red stripe!
VW's should be simple, and restrained, doing stuff like that to your Golf is the start of the slippery slope

Just my opinion...

Its the US spec, not sure if its GTi or the GLi though. I asked about this about five years ago, thought i might be able to find one, but couldnt. I stuck some tape on to see if i liked it, but have taken it off now, as you could see the creases and things. Would look good if painted in the correct shade i think. I also went over the top and painted the heater vent arrows, which i dont think helped!

Not the best picture, but i think you see what i mean:

You need to warm the tape with a hair dryer or something to shape it around the corners. I taped over my pink stripe in the front bumper of my previous small bumper car, and it looked bang on.
