Wheel help please,

Hi i was just wanting to know if any other cars wheels fit my VW, i have a Mk 5 GTI and looking at putting winter tyres on it as the winter is bad in Germany, i see plenty of second hand steel rims and tyres but not many for VW....so what else fits? IE if someone had a set of Ford SMAX rims and tyre would they fit etc...Thank you

try the forums and ebay , get a set of second hand 17 inch alloys , u can pick scuffed ones up cheap enuff , biggest steeles u will pick up are 16 inch which is minimum to go over gti breaks , u can get other makes that will fit like merc but the hole in the middle to big so u will need a spiggot ,   alloys look better than steeles but then 16 inch rubber is cheaper  ,  i picked up a set of 17 inch monzas on ebay for winter wheeles to replace my 18 monzas which have f 1,s on , dont know if thats any help
