VW Golf mk3 1.4 1997 ( Flat battery)
« on: 12 November 2010, 17:46 »
I believe my battery has run flat, car wont start and when lights are turned on there is a high pitched noise and click. New to cars and im wondering if there is a battery charger i can buy as i believe the battery is a calcium battery. Also how much id would cost to get one and where from?

Many thanks for any help !

Right well if your defo sure it is the battery then you can buy new batteries from any local garage or halfords or even direct from the internet which maybe your cheapest option. As for the battery charger then i know halfords are selling a good one which is half price at the mo, think it is £35 but it is good, it will charge the battery and once it is fully charged it switches to maintain and stabilises the battery rather then keep charging it which would end up damaging the cells inside. Let us know how you get on mate

Does the battery have a manufactured date on it?

If it's +10 years old then it may well be worn out and you'll need to fit a new one, especially if it's suddenly gone.

Alternatively, if it's gone over a longer period then think about anything you've done in the past few months.  Fitted a new stereo maybe?  These things can drain batteries over time.

Let us know a bit more about the situation and we can help a bit more.

Alternatively, it IS a 1.4 Golf3.  A flat battery is an excellent reason to scrap it....

I wasn't aware you had to have a reason to scrap a MK3.

I always thought it was the default option.
