what gearbox is in my mk2 gti 8v urgent

hi guys my gearbox decided to sh!t itself today ive pciked up fragments of gearbox casing and some shaft and one gear  ... from the road 

i need a new gearbox but i neeed to know what one it is so i make sure i buy the right one

its a 5 speed   but i cant read the code ont he sticker in the boot is it written anywhere else other then the bottom of the gearbox itself ?

AUG box was fitted from 1989 onward, so you have one of these.

looking at that its deffo the diff thats f**ked and probably due to rivet failure  because that is described on there as the weak point on the transmission

Definitely an AUG, and the later models also had a shorter second gear that allow you to reach 62 in 2nd.

Diffs are the weak point on the boxes - I had to swap mine as it was on the verge of giving up. It might be an idea to install a bolt kit on the new one and replace the dodgy rivets.
