Fast road Cam??
« on: 07 February 2005, 12:29 »
I've got a '90 8v Digifant. I'm looking to squeeze some bhp out of the
old girl.  I am thinking of changing the cam and maybe getting one
of those cheapo chips off Ebay.
If anyone has done this what difference does it make?
Is it worth it?

Cheers

I had one of those cheapo chips off ebay for my last 8v, I think it made the midrange response a little better but the car was completely standard other than the chip so it didn't make a great deal of difference. I'm sure that coupled with a kent cam and some sort of filter/induction kit the differences would be much more noticable. I paid about ?22 for my chip on ebay just to give you an idea. Make sure you get a proper copied IC though and not one of those resistor chips which aren't even worth the cost of the postage stamp!!!

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

I've got a K&N panal filter fitted to my modified air box. I'll have a look in ebay this afternoon to check out what's on offer. Are the chips easy to fit?

Will do.
Have you noticed a performance change since you fitted your chip?

i've got a piper 285 in mine and to be honest although it makes a nice difference it idles like crap and can sometimes be annoying. if you use your car around town alot you may want something a bit less wild.

best bet is to start with a 4-2-1 brand manifold into a decent exhaust system. Then a performance air filter. After that it's expensive bits like a flowed head from TSR or a capacity increase. 8v aren't the most powerfull engine in the world, but you can tune them to 160bhp and they have buckets of torque.
