He said he won't buy new lad

Yeha and I'm imparting some advise (what forums are generally used for) to buy a new one....Not a ropey 19 year old one that's probably no better than the one he's got! lad.

Don't forget to check the condition of the seal between the scuttle tray and the fresh air blower mesh cover.

If this has perished water can get into the blower.

Remover the blower cover and put a bead of silicone selant around the base. Refit and this will prevent water going into the motor.

I'd try spray on lube...WD will dry it out and probably make it worse.

Spray lube you say? Will try get hold of some, or will normal grease do?

silicone spray lube is what i use for this. wd40 isnt a lube its a water dispersant ;)

if you can persuade the plastic fan housing to come off it'll make it much easier to get to the bearings to clean and inspect. i tried on mine and gave up in the end, just got a goodun from a mk2 in scrapper. try to find a random car with a battery still in it so you can test it first!

5 Min fix: Take it off (30 seconds) un-clip the electrical terminal that lets you inside and nuke it with some wd (tried spray lube but wouldn't work) then shake it a bit, clean off excess wd then wack it back in. Bish bash bosh.

So, whats easier to do then? Go on ebay and buy a new one

WD wont last long, i tried it.  i used my dipstick to put some engine oil on the bushes. oil will soak in, WD dries it up. it was this time last year when i done it so it lasted longer than my other bodges
