TDI OR GTI??
« on: 10 November 2010, 11:23 »
I have been driving a 1.9 TDI mk4 now for nearly a year. It has been in my family since new (2000) and I'm in the process of looking for a mk4 GTI.

I am 18 and the insurance is £400 more on a GTI which I don't think is too bad!
I have heard that GTI's don't live as long as TDI's, any advice on this?

Thanks
Lauren

Don't know about the GTI not living as long but I can sure as hell tell you that problems are easier to resolve on the petrol than the diesel.
I'm kinda maybe looking at doing the same, get shot of the the derv and go petrol.

How do you work that out?

Have you seen the complicated PCV system on the petrol engines?

On the TDI's there's about 4 pipes which causes problems although they aren't cheap to replace

Well the only work my TDI's had to have in 10 years is the suspension and the break pads, it is a very reliable car

But I think it is time for a change! Some insurance companies tell me I have to be 21 and others have quoted me for £90 a month which isn't bad.

What problems have you got Asif?
I have heard diagnosing problems on diesel injection system can be difficult.
