Tell tale signs for a 90 spec Mk2?
« on: 06 February 2005, 19:37 »
Alrite guys, currently considering buying another mk2 16V...

However im unsure on how to check that the car im looking at is a genuine big bumper mk2, (90 spec)

Its a G plate, but this could meen either 1989 0r 1990.

My last mk2 16V was an 1989 with the hazard switch on the dash. Now i heard if the hazard switch was on the steering column then it is a 90 spec...(came originally with big bumpers)..????

Is this true or not?

Any advice appreciated

models earlier than 90 that have buig bumpers are easily spotted as they rarely change the side strip.

the 90 models had a thin rubber strip with the words GTI on the front door. the earlier models had a much wider strip.

Brilliant, the hazard switch is on the steering column.

I can now assume that this is a genuine big bumper golf

i'm pretty sure late 89s had big bumpers. hence the "90 spec" term being somewhat misleading.
