So you're getting more than 38mpg from your gti? Are you doing a lot of m way driving at 60mph or what?
Please let me in on the secret.
Only use Shell V power, on motorways use cruise control to keep revs below 3000 ( about 75 mph ) and can easily achieve 45-47 mpg.
Around town I see 33-38mpg.

Must be a town without much traffic, I do mainly town driving and can't get it above 25.7 mpg. [I only use V-Power as well]

Try the 8 mile run from West London to Kings Cross using the Marylebone Road in rush hour. 6-10 mpg between Baker Street and Kings Cross. Average speed 6 mph. :sick:

Very surprised at the Golf GTD's lack of economy that they are quoting, which lets face it is the only reason you would choose one over the GTi:

* Price: £24,230
* Engine: 2.0-litre 4cyl, 168bhp
* 0-60mph: 7.6 seconds
* AE economy: 38.1mpg
* Claimed CO2: 134g/km

My GTi is faster and more economical.

Must be a mistake  :rolleyes:

If that GTD gets 38.1mpg there must have been a hole in the fuel tank.  I can't do that if I tried the worst mpg I have had was low 48mpg (calculated - none of this trip computer rubbish).

You guys need to think about this abit harder. :wink:
They performance tested the car. :nerd:

That GTD is there long term car thats often shown in the long term car section. This GTD is often quoted as ~45mpg average over the time with them, and we are not talking BS computer says numbers or miles to a tenner or one trip type. They do it the proper way brim to brim and miles covered. Then look at the last tank fulls average and work it out to date.

Spot on thats why it says AE Economy ie Auto Express Economy.

I have alway kept a proper log of mpg on all my cars running costs. not that I drive for economy just like to keep track of my costs. :wink:

I am really happy with the GTD's mpg (My first Diesel). I just hit 2000 miles of mixed town/motorway driving and its returning 46.4mpg. In comparison My ED30 was returning 24.7mpg and the 350z 19.8mpg  :sick: and Mini Cooper S 25.9 mpg :sick:.

Loved the ED30 but was costing me £350 a month in fuel. :embarassed:

GTD is working out at £200 a month. :shocked:

So I'm off to Austria for 2 weeks over christmas/new year with the money i've saved   :evil:

Its a bit better then mine. But what is the mix percentage wise? Mine is 70% local running.
