Polished wheels - protection?

I now have these:



I have some Poorboys wheel sealant that VRDan has let me borrow but haven't applied it yet, should I just use that or can I layer a dash of 915 on top too?

I think you're ok to layer it up 

Ideally you should have done that BEFORE putting the wheels back on the car as you could apply it more easily and to all of the wheel 

And get some bolt covers too

nice rims shady, i wanted these for ages when i had my mk3 gti,

put a couple of layers of wheel sealant on and then after a couple of hours apply 2 layers of 915. keep on top of cleaning them or they will corrode quite quickly, you need a ph neutral wheel cleaner as anything other than this will damage the finish. also re- apply a layer of wax after washing them to keep them protected through the winter.

Would it not be safer for me to just take them off for the winter? But it's good I can look after them with what I have.  I only need to top up the 915 is that right? What wheel cleaner would you recommend? I'll have to buy it on pay day at the end of the month, can I use Autoglym shampoo for now?

a few years ago i had some wheels re-furbed the guys who did them told me to spray them with wd 40 wipe the excess off worked well through the winters

yep autoglym shampoo is fine, and yes just give them a thin layer of 915 every time you wash them to top up the gloss and protection, if you have the option of taking them off for winter then do it as this will save them tbh, if you are keeping them on then you must keep a good routine of keeping them clean and protected or you will be wanting to get them refurbed in 12 months time. polished rims are well nice but need alot of care and attention unfortunatly.

bilberry wheel cleaner is a good cleaner for regular cleaning but not so good if you let your rims get quite manky between washes, it dilutes down nicely too.
dodojuice mellow yellow is a safe wheel cleaner and worth a punt, basically look on whatever website your going to buy it from and have a good read through the various wheel cleaners, they are all roughly the same in chemical make-up and all serve the same purpose just make sure its ph neutral and your sorted.

can see what your saying but wd40 near brakes doesnt sit nicely from where im sitting, sealant and wax is te best protection tbh.

Cheers for the advice buddy. Much appreciated. I'm going to give them a clean this weekend as this is the only time I can really do it. I need to get a rolling shot as they look ace when rolling. Saw a reflection in shop window.
