Arrgh Car won't start - Help anyone
« on: 09 November 2010, 10:55 »
Seeing as we've had a crappy amount of rain I thought i'd turn the Golf over only the engine turns over but won't fire not even the faintest cough.

I'm guessing it's got a little wet somewhere

Anyone got any ideas before i call the yellow van out.

Cheers,

Bit of WD 40 in the dizzy cap? Used to work on my Mk1 Astra, that didn't like the wet weather at all

There was me thinking there would be an educated reply from Rub Johnny at least now i can rule out the wheels and interior trim then

I'll give the WD40 a go, i did take the dizzy off and there was a little moisture inside it but i didn't think that would cause it not to start.

It's a MK2 GTI 91  I thought you were being sarcastic

I tried the WD40 and hey presto the engine now runs fine, so gave it time to warm itself up and get the heat into the bay and it all sounds good.

Good news, my Astra used to hate the wet. New dizzy didn't solve the problem but WD40 always used to help

On an old mini I used to have a washing up glove with the tips of the fingers cut off covering the dizzy
