Question about DSG in Neutral....

I have an 05 Mark 5 GTI with a DSG gear box.  I just noticed something peculiar about it.  If i put the gearbox in "N" and put my foot flat on the accelerator pedal the car will not rev above 4,000rpm...  Does anyone know why this is?  Just never noticed it before.

Mine does that as well, and all VW DSG's i've driven do the same thing, its a safety feature apparently!

The oil pump is linked to the gearing and so when it is in neutral there is no oil being circulated around the box. Limiting the revs helps protect the 'box. Also you shouldn't cruise at speed in neutral for the same reason. :smiley:

It's not justa VW thing, a lot of manufacturers have this feature now to help prevent any damage
